#SoCS: A Close-Up to Winter and Cats

Cats are funny. Sometimes they want to be close up to their human while they attempt a yoga stretch, and sometimes they are a bit further away. In a box. At times there are snuggles and purrs from the furballs, at times one can drive a person crazy with their need-to-be/want-to-be in the kitchen addiction. Close up, the double fence wall seems formidable, but I’m waiting for Hoshi to find a way past it. The white fence was doing it’sRead more

#SoCS: In The Something

In the, in the, in the… I’m not coming up with much for the Stream of Consciousness prompt. In the heat of the night… In the final analysis… In the dead of winter… In the something… Okay, so I suppose I could write about the dead of winter since as of this moment, the temperature is 15F (-9.4C) and the expected high on Monday will be 1F (-17.2C). Yes, it’s cold here in Wisconsin and my plans are to spendRead more

Winter Burn

“Nothing burns like the cold.”  ~George R.R. Martin~ Boy and girls… It’s freakin’ cold here in Wisconsin. High temp today around -10F (-23C), with wind chills that feel like hell has frozen over. At the time this post publishes, circa 6 am, the actual temperature will be around -20F (-29C) with a “real feel” wind chill of -50F (-45.5C). Yeah, that burns. The Governor declared a State of Emergency on Monday after a major snowstorm and the impending cold. GoodRead more

Name of the Game

Hanging on the office wall, reflections and all… For this week’s photo challenge of NAME, I chose to take this photo as “my team” prepares for an NFL play-off game at home, on Sunday. Readers and followers of MJM know that I am a life-long Green Bay Packer fan and generally love the sport of football, both pro and college. I attended games annually (once a year with the girls) at Lambeau Field for a good chunk of Brett Favre’sRead more

The Trail’s Horizon

The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun.  ~Christopher McCandless~ For this week’s Daily Post photo challenge, Krista encourages us to think ahead to new horizons and New Year’s resolutions. I don’t usually make resolutions on January 1st, because they tend to fall away by February or March and then I’m simply bummed andRead more

Weather Relativity

“It’s nice out there!” So proclaimed one of the bosses after walking in from outside. The afternoon was partly sunny. The temperature was a balmy 18 F. Or -7.77 C. Nice? Say what? This is weather relativity after several days of bone-chilling, below-zero wind chills. I had been wearing long underwear, two pairs of socks, long-sleeved T-shirts under heavy sweaters, and not-so-cute-but-warm boots for much of the week. The many layers are necessary to keep from shattering teeth into aRead more

A Certain Feeling

I get a certain feeling when I go to Lambeau Field in Green Bay.  ~John Madden~ I was looking for a hugely prolific quote about Lambeau Field, but soon realized there’s not much more one can say about that place. If you’re a tried and true, die-hard Green Bay Packer fan, you get that certain feeling every time you step foot onto the grounds of this historic venue. That feeling came to me this past Thursday evening, when I attended the last pre-seasonRead more
