Winter Burn

“Nothing burns like the cold.”

~George R.R. Martin~

Boy and girls…

It’s freakin’ cold here in Wisconsin. High temp today around -10F (-23C), with wind chills that feel like hell has frozen over.

At the time this post publishes, circa 6 am, the actual temperature will be around -20F (-29C) with a “real feel” wind chill of -50F (-45.5C).

Yeah, that burns.

The Governor declared a State of Emergency on Monday after a major snowstorm and the impending cold.

Good decision.

I’m wearing my long underwear, wool socks, and whatever else will keep me warm…and working from home.

How’s that for the frozen tundra of this fine state, a/k/a Siberia?

In the spirit of comradery and with empathy, please enjoy the following gallery of cold-weather memes, have something hot to drink, and think warm, safe thoughts for all in the path of this Arctic chill.

Ha! It is cold here in sunny FL–32 degrees. Weatherperson said we might (might!) get snow. Schools in parts of AL closed today. Long live the South!

Sorry, but I always chuckle when it’s cold and snows in the south. I’ve been in FL during a cold spell (30’s night/50’s day) and it was so funny to me to hear people talk about how cold it was. Meanwhile, back in WI, we’re thinking that 32 degrees is heaven. It’s all perspective and what you’re accustomed to, right?

      • loisajay says:

Absolutely. After so many years living down here, I still chuckle when the weather gets cold in FL. Too funny.

I too have my hot drink in hand and my heater pumping warmly beside me. It’s beyond frigidly cold outside and I have a bad cold. There isn’t a part of me that doesn’t hurt right now.
So yes, this will be a very slow day.

Stay warm. I’m guessing the fur babies are happy to have you at home.

    • bikerchick57 says:

Oh Joanne, I hope you start to feel better soon. You need chicken soup and rest! Thank goodness you can stay inside next to your heater!

      • Joanne Sisco says:

ooooh – chicken soup. Yes – why didn’t I think of that? I wonder if I can scrape together a pot of soup with what I have in the house? 🤔 Thanks for the inspiration!

      • Joanne Sisco says:

I have happily discovered I have everything I need. Chicken soup is on the menu for today 🙂
… now I just have to summon up enough strength to make it 😉

      • Joanne Sisco says:

🙂 … that would be quite the achievement!

Instead I loaded up the Instant Pot. Soup is in progress 🙂

I love the memes. Especially the one with the dog asking if it is prepared for the long walk to the toilet. Exactly how our greyhound acted this morning. Hope all of you get through this cold safely. I think the worst cold I ever experienced was -19 or -20 C that one winter I lived in Berlin many, many moons ago. The beast from the East last year was -8C I think around here. But I guess it depends on what you are used to. I’m from the South of Germany and always have to love when I see the hint of panic in the eyes of people around here when they see one snowflake… 😁

    • bikerchick57 says:

Thanks Bee. I’ve lived all of my life in Wisconsin and have suffered through a polar vortex winter and very cold temps. This might be a record, though. I don’t remember the wind chills ever being -50F. That’s just plain crazy. What’s even crazier, though, is that by the weekend, our high temps are going to be close to 40F. That will feel awesome!

Been reading about this on the BBC news site, wow that’s some cold temps. Hope you manage to keep warm and safe.

I feel so bad for you. We’re going to be cold, but not that kind of cold – yikes. Do what you can to stay warm. I do think the humor helps, at least I got a chuckle out of them.

Thankfully the boss did not tell me to put on a scarf and come in!
I could have posted a few frigid weather memes, but I think you get the point. 🙃

My son’s been driving back forth from 45 miles to work all week. Yesterday between the time he got to work and ready to leave they shut the highway down. I stayed with him on the phone while he drove the cross-country alternate route until he got back to civilization. The boss one made me think of him. Yes, it’s DAMNED COLD OUT THERE!

I like the memes. And I’m betting that a bit of laughter warms up a person! Stay safe and warm. Are you at home tomorrow, too?

    • bikerchick57 says:

I have to go back to the office tomorrow and not looking forward to it. I’ll try to find something to laugh about on my way in.

  7. Laurie says:

Oh, man! That is COLD!!! School was canceled here yesterday for the cold, but it never got below zero!

  8. joey says:

Y’all couldn’t suffer on your own, you just had to share some of that with us, hm? I heard the weatherman say it, Mary, he said, “as arctic winds sweep down from Wisconsin…”

I’m glad you had an emergency. I believe you needed the time off to wear warmies and post funny memes 🙂 I appreciate it!

    • bikerchick57 says:

Funny, I blamed the Canadians who, in turn, probably blamed Santa and his elves. Wearing warm clothes and getting work done in between the memes was fabulous!
