#SoCS: Bike Tripping

Biking buddy and I have been busy planning an end-of-June trip to Missouri. The Katy Trail, at 237 miles, is the longest “rail-to-trail” recreational delight in the United States. Spanning East to West from Machens to Clinton, it follows the path of the Missouri River for most of its length. We will be biking the western half of the trail, with visits to the Clydesdale ranch, breweries, wineries, and historic buildings thrown in. In preparation, biking buddy and I madeRead more

Somewhat Busy

I can’t necessarily say that I live an exciting life. I can say I live a somewhat busy life. Unlike this guy… “Sleep my little baby-oh Sleep until you waken When you wake you’ll see the world If I’m not mistaken…”  ~Neil Gaiman~ I wanted so badly to sleep Thursday morning, to stay in bed until the urge for coffee overwhelmed the need to lay prone. It may be my own fault – I’ve started reading at night [summer project]Read more

Keeping Balance

“Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving.” ~Albert Einstein Not to worry, Albert…I’m moving: To work, to home, to the grocery store, to visit mom, to church, to yoga and the gym, and various other locations. But I’m not on my bike. JustRead more

Friendship & Bike Legs

This past weekend was fabulous. It included the company of long-time friends, good conversation, fantastic weather and a bike ride. After work on Friday, I headed south toward Milwaukee to catch up on the past nine months with friends I have known for a long time. We had not seen each other since the end of July 2016. I had not seen the new house they moved into last August. There was “catching up” to be done, along with aRead more

Last Ride Goodbyes?

I’m wondering if I’ll get out on the bike trail…one more time…before it turns too cold. We’ve had beautiful days in September and October, but not necessarily on the weekends. This is the time of year when Wisconsinites cannot be assured of biking-friendly weather. It can be stunningly gorgeous as it was on Monday and Tuesday when the high reached close to 70. Or it can be raining a cold fifty-degree dampness, like today. It’s hard to know when aRead more

Beginnings on Two Wheels

Back on May 22nd, I threw out a challenge to a few of my blogging buddies to write or photograph or wax poetic, during the month of June, over two-wheeled transportation: Bicycles and Motorcycles. If you’ve not been to Mary J Melange prior to today, I must tell you that I have a love of both. While the 15 years of motorcycling are but a memory in photos and brain matter and the weight of a leather jacket, the pastRead more
