He hides in the shadow of summer
Snarls with his upper lip
Waits ready, anxious
to pounce with Canadian cold
Hostility chases away retreating geese
Gives shivers to a fading tan
Takes aggressive to the edge
as if he were a hungry lion
Old man bitterly bites a cheek or two
Whirls across smooth black tar
Leaves his signature of white
and never wants to leave
He punches spring in the gut
Sends warmth to the ground
Adheres himself with super glue
and laughs at those who whine
Finally…
Old Man Aggressive leaves
Plods slowly, unwillingly
Back into summer’s shadows
and waits to give fall a swift kick
Stream of Consciousness Saturday is the brainchild of author Linda G. Hill. Every Friday, Linda provides her followers with an inspiring blogger’s prompt. It can be a word or words and sometimes bonus points are involved (my favorite). Linda asks us to write without editing, other than correcting spelling errors.
Just go with the flow.
Like a babbling brook, ambling stream or running river. Click HERE if this type of writing floats your boat or helps with your decision-making.
Nice job with a difficult prompt. You’ve described this winter very well. I want this old man gone. And, in the fall, I want to see a winter wimp show up.
I always expect this wintry crap in March, but not in April. It’s gotta go soon, Dan, or I will be the aggressive one. I agree with you…I hope summer and fall make up for this.
We need Mother Nature to move the thermostat to warmth. I have given up on March, but April is a disappointment so far.
Oh, nicely done! That old codger is hanging on here too… Here’s to giving Old Man Winter a swift kick. Hugs.
Thanks Teagan. I’m going to have to get out my old Harley biker boots so I can get the most bang out of a swift kick to winter. I only wish they were steel toed! :-p
It snowed all afternoon yesterday, April 6th. Enough already. If only we could kick this winter to the curb. 🙂
A good thing: The sun is out today and I’ll be spending time with friends inside…where it’s warm. Let’s hope us northerners all get a warming reprieve very soon!
Good one, Mary!! The way you’ve described it, winter is a nasty combination of bully and confident alpha-male aggressor. This last wallop was particularly brutal with those winds. Holy Hurricane!!
Happy Weekend!! The sun is shining, even if it is unseasonably cold.
Yes, the sun is shining and the birds are chirping! I felt sorry for the geese and birds who came from warmer temps to the wind and snow. Wonder what they were thinking? 😉
Happy weekend to you as well. Hope you either have something fun planned or time to sit back and relax.
Great description of the old man. (Gotta wonder why he won’t get lost.) Nice job, Mary
I should have hired a hit man for the old guy. Put him out of his misery…and mine. :-p
What a great idea for a story. Hitman for Winter.
Love it!!
Thanks Shelley!
Well done Mary! 💕👏🏻
Thanks Cheryl. I think this might be one of two poems I have to hand in on Wednesday night. The second one is pending…
Can’t wait.
You’ve explained this stupid winter perfectly: “He punches spring in the gut
Sends warmth to the ground.” Not happy about this old man, but whatcha gonna do?
I’m thinking adult refreshment and chocolate may help to ease the pain. 😀
Don’t they always?
What a bully! He must have some big issues, but that’s no excuse.
This guy needs anger management counseling!
True!
It started out 41 degree this morning and never got out of the 50s. Boo hiss.
Oh well done!
Thank you!
great poem. Not only is the poem appropriate it does fit the weather. Hopefully Mother Sunshine will eventually win out. Where can I get these prompts. I give your poem a rating of 5/5 stars. Yes I did rate your poem 5 stars too.
Thank you! Click on the HERE link at the bottom of this post. It will take you to Linda G. Hill’s blog page. On the menu at the top, go to “prompts” so you can see what is available. Hope you find time to join in with SoCS or One Liner Wednesday.
very nicely done! So many aggressive verbs in there…how clever to say that he punches Spring and kicks fall.
