Inspiration in Age

This week’s photo challenge asks for inspiration.

I need not look further than my mother.

Jax & Mom 006

Her birthday is this Thursday, August 6th. On that day, she will turn 96.

Ninety-six years of inspiration.

Mom inspires me to keep going.

To drink an adult refreshment whenever I’m in the mood.

To be feisty and vocal when someone serves crappy food.

To go dancing.

To stop and notice the colors of the rainbow and the green of the trees.

To always be kind and respectful of the aged.

And to never give up a ratty black sweater, no matter what.

Happy Birthday to my mom and inspiration!

Even though I have not personally met Mom, I truly adore her. Wishing her a very Happy Birthday on August 6, 2015!

  2. That’s a lovely photo. 🙂

Tell your mother that I wish her the most wonderful 96th birthday! I hope to be as cute as her when I grow up. 🙂

  3. Happy Birthday M-J’s Mum/Mom! I like her life lessons and feel compelled to follow them myself. Especially the adult refreshment. Cheers! (And, in my case, the sweater is grey with yellow and blue stripes.)

Mine is red with a gold button missing! I followed the adult refreshment lesson last night with friends…I was inspired 😉 Anyhoo, I will pass on the B-day wish to mums.

      • That’s the kind of inspiration I can take.

My ratty sweater is one I knitted when I was about 16. I made it too big so it’s only ever really been a “wear about the house” sweater. (It’s actually a “jumper” in my language but I’m happy to translate for you.) It’s now starting to unravel on the right sleeve. I’m thinking the old adage “a stitch in time” could be relevant at this point.

I wore “jumpers” in grade school…here they are a type of dress. Or is that what your sweater looks like? I think it’s time you get out the sewing machine and fix your jumper so it goes another 20 years.

      • That’s a pinafore. We do understand sweater as another term for jumper, it’s just not what we use. I think the Kiwis might use sweater. Or is it jersey? Hm. Too long ago to remember. (I once did a bus tour with some Kiwis. Fascinating species. Can’t understand a word they say but they’re nice enough.)

Jersey is what I wear on football Sundays! It has a big #12 on it. Funny how we use the same words for different things. As for the Kiwis, they probably thought YOU talked funny…

Happy birthday Mary’s mom! Hey, I have a ratty black sweater, too, that I keep at work. When they can get that thermostat right then I will put the sweater away. Till that happens, the sweater stays. Stay feisty, mom!

    • bikerchick57 says:

Thanks Lois! That’s the reason mom keeps the sweater…she gets cold easily, especially with the A/C. It seems as though we all have our ratty sweaters and we don’t care! :-p

Awwww great tribute!! We’re going to Michigan this fall to celebrate my 89 and 90 year young parents’ birthdays. I get to golf with Dad. He shoots his age or better and he, Hub and I have mire fun on the golf course than humans deserve.

Hugs to you, Mom and good-old-fashioned hutzpah!!

Thanks Sammy! Have fun this fall with your mom and dad and the golf clubs. Sounds like a fun and wonderful time.

Mom is too funny when it comes to her brandy. I plan on being just like her, except it will be chocolate martinis for me 😉

  6. What a blessing to have your mother for so long. Definitely inspiring. And I dance too whenever I have the chance!!

A big “thanks” from mom! Yes, probably more tales than I know about or that she cares to tell me. 🙂

Happy birthday wishes and big hug to your mom. 96 is pretty amazing. I hope I’m feisty if I ever see my 96th birthday 🙂

I’d like to think that feisty automatically comes with being that old. Really, at that age, I wouldn’t give a crap about anything or what anyone thought. I’ll be sure to give mom lots of birthday hugs and wishes.
