The photo above is one of Little Lake Butte des Morts on June 16th. Another day without rain, but a perfect summer day. The above-normal heat of June had subsided, but the slime green is a telltale sign of how our weather has been. The lake thinks it’s August, the dog days of summer, not the waning days of spring. Too many hot hours in the upper 80’s and low 90’s F (30-34C), without rain, have lowered water levels, made plants wilt, turned grass to straw and put a nice algae haze on some of our waters. Normal June temps in Wisconsin are in the 70’s.
While biking on the 16th, I stopped on one of the lake’s bridges and realized exactly how low the water level is. Normally, you don’t see fish swimming on the bottom. Normally, I don’t see the bottom.
Thursday night we finally had rain, a very loud thunderstorm, but what we could use are cooler days and two days of a steady, soaking rain. It might help the trees, gardens and lawns.
Not all of the lakes, rivers and streams look sad or green, but I can tell that their depth has diminished.
Lake Winnebago was looking gorgeous, at least from a distance.
I don’t like hot weather, not anymore. I used to love it as a child and teenager, but these days it’s almost as bad as being stuck inside on a cold winter day. I love being outside during the warmer months – on the bike, walking, or sitting on the patio – so the drone of the room A/C units, plus allergies and dry eyes, don’t make for ideal conditions. I’m hoping the rest of summer is not like this. I prefer upper 70s, low humidity, and enough rain to keep everything happy.
Friday was another hot day, but today promises to be cooler. It’s a good thing since I’m heading out soon to help a friend with an ongoing project in her garage. We’ll be at it for most of the day, so if I don’t chat much…

Our last heat wave I told my husband it was just like winter because who wanted to be out in the 90+ degree, humid, windy weather. Yep, inside with the A/C running. 🙂 We’ve enjoyed some more moderate weather this week, but have a couple of hot days coming.
The A/C wouldn’t be so bad if it was central air, but the wall units I have are not exactly quiet. It’s hard to hear the TV at times and I’ve gone so far as to turn on the closed captioning so I don’t have to strain to hear what people are saying. I suppose I shouldn’t whine, though. There are other parts of the country fairing much worse with heat and storms.

I know the west, especially California, is experiencing terrible heat, so I understand. When I went to the lakeshore last week and it was 20 degrees cooler there, I felt the same way – I can breathe!
The heat is every bit as bad as the cold, and every bit as expensive to remedy. I do force myself to get outside, but the fun shrinks as the temperature rises. I hope you have a cooler day in which to work, and I hope you get some rain.
We had another thunderstorm, and a few minutes of small hail, come through early this morning. Didn’t really need the hail, only the wet, but I can’t control those conditions. It IS cooler now, Dan, (yay!) and I hope it stays that way for a few days so no one’s sweat has to sweat harder.

Beer and Skittles? Lol, Can I have chips and guac instead of the Skittles? I prefer salty with a beer. 🙃🙂
Ha! I’d rather have guac too. I’ve been working too hard on Victorian stuff (3 projects of it). “Beer and skittles” meant fun and games… Skittles was a lawn game that started in the 17th century. Beer — obvious. So by the Victorian era, the slang term came along.
Ugh… now I really want some guac… 😉

It kills me to (mostly) sit inside with the AC on, but the humidity is awful out there. So I piddle outside in the early morning–less heat and less mosquitos. Does my butt look bigger??
Hahahahaha! My butt is going to do the same if I have to sit inside all day. Luckily, it’s cooler today and I have plenty of opportunity to be upright and moving.
I hear you! We’ve had it hotter than normal too. Sparky’s tomatoes are loving it but it is driving up our water bill from having to water the garden! I went for a little walk around the block and was drenched in sweat. But walking into the house felt so cool (even though it was not that cool inside according to the thermostat). Everything is relative!
You’ll have yummy tomatoes this summer, but at a cost I suppose. I have to pay for water too, but it seems that I’ve been watering no more than in past years, probably due to the northern exposure. I’m watering myself a lot, though. 😏
I just hate seeing lakes at lower than normal water levels. Praying for rain and cooler temps to go your way.
The coming week is supposed to be cooler and we’ve had some rain the last two evenings, so hallelujah! We still need more rain to get the grass green again.

I’m the same way about hot weather. As a youngster it was the best but now I find it wears on my very last nerve. Being too hot that is. The beauty of summer I still appreciate.

I wish I could send you some rain from NC. Sometimes after a rain we get steam rising. One would think that with all our technology, we could move the clouds over to the west.
We had thunderstorms earl Saturday morning and rain this afternoon. I think we’re turning the tide.
