Christmas Eve from the Pod

Gibbs? Yeah, whattya want? Well aren’t we Mr. Grumpy Pants… I’m busy sleeping in my Christmas present. You mean OUR Christmas present, right? Mom bought the new cat tree for the both of us. Whatever… Gibbs! Why are you acting like the cigar you left in the litter box? I guess I’m a little down today. Why today? It’s Christmas Eve. Santa is going to leave something for us tonight, although he has big shoes to fill. Mom outdid himRead more

Oh Night Divine

“Truly He taught us to love one another” It’s the holiday season and I’m dedicating this One-Liner Wednesday post and the subsequent four to the reason for the season, the birth of Jesus, in song. I love the classics that sing of my Savior’s birth (although Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer will always hold a special place in my heart). Mom and dad preferred these songs and they are what I grew up singing in church, at home and anywhere elseRead more

The Other Side

“They say stay in the lines, but there’s always something better on the other side.” ~John Mayer~ I made it to the other side On my ride Last one of the season I reasoned This may be true The sky shod its blue Days turned to chill as the rider turned ill Could there be more For a bicycle whore Another warm day Before fall goes away To get to the other side And ride outside the lines This postRead more

Life, Football & Dedication

“Football is like life – it requires perseverance, self-denial, hard work, sacrifice, dedication and respect for authority.” ~Vince Lombardi~ Yes, boys and girls, it’s football season. Stop rolling your eyes. The football pre-season is well underway and, on September 10th, my beloved Green Bay Packers start their regular season hosting the Seattle Seahawks at Lambeau Field. The Aaron Rodgers #12 jersey is ready to go and I’m somewhat ready to suffer the anxiety that comes with wanting my team toRead more

Optimistic Waves

Weekly Photo Challenge: How do you fuel the fires of optimism? The answer is in the waves. I have the biking itch. In January. In Wisconsin. I used this photo in a post last fall and in eyeing it again, I see the optimism of spring and feel the hope of an early biking season. The neighbor and I were looking out upon the shores of Green Bay, in September 2015, during a Door County two-wheeled trek. The day was absolutely gorgeous, the kind of dayRead more

And so it starts…

Red came over early in the week to decorate the tree. This year’s theme: Elegant black and gold. It is spectacularly beautiful, far more than photographs can relay. The remainder of the festive decorations are up, including a gathering of Santas and two flamingos on the patio – colored green and gold and numbered 12 and 52. Go Pack Go! Thursday, was Feed-Your-Face Day or Thanksgiving. I eat like it’s my last meal – turkey, stuffing, mashed taters, green bean casserole,Read more

Please Stay

If haiku is the sashimi of poetry, tanka is its heartier hand roll cousin. Summer, why leave us? You take the long days with you The warmth seeps away We shall miss your smiling skies Please stay, for just one more month It’s football season Summer is waving good-bye The pigskin is tossed A wave breaks across the fans Green and gold color the field Summer is now gone Frost covers the browning grass Pumpkin patches rule The holidays standRead more

The End

No, it’s not the end of MJM or cat pictures or mom stories. It’s the end of vacation. Boo. I have not set foot in my office since August 7th. I will be returning tomorrow, August 18th. Boo. During this time away, I spent time with family, baked bread, stole away for bike rides, hit the pool at the gym, visited with a few friends, went to the Michigan State Fair and tried to relax. On Monday, relaxation is over. Boo.Read more
