A New Chapter: Life as Me

“There’s a grace when the heart is under fire Another way when the walls are closing in And when I look at the space between Where I used to be and this reckoning I know I will never be alone” ~From Another in the Fire by Hillsong~ Ten years ago, I wanted it to be over with. The divorce. I had two months to go for it to be final, and a number of years before I truly felt peace.Read more

It’s Okay!

At first, I LOL’d over Monday’s “Shame Your Pet” cat calendar page. I have a cat that yowls at 3:00 am out of pride for the smelly Baby Ruth he leaves uncovered in the litter box. Yeah, cats are weird. Then again… There are times when I think we’d all like to yowl about something at 3:00 am or any time of the day over the things that bring us joy. The first bike ride of the season. The coolestRead more

Smiling Mom

Mom can be as grumpy as an alley cat and mad as a wet hen, because the food at assisted living still “SUCKS!” But when I ask her to smile for the camera, she does. This day, mom was a bit mad when I visited. The caregivers wouldn’t give her ice cream after lunch. She complained that lunch, the food, was awful. Where is Peace?

That is a great question. I wish there was a pat answer. I feel peace hiding, trembling, afraid to show its face of late. ISIS terrorist attacks in Paris and Beirut, and the bombing of a Russian airliner over Egypt, have the world’s humanity on edge – fearful, filled with anxiety, and witness to suffering. From NBCNews.com:  “SAINT-DENIS, France — A woman blew herself up early Wednesday (November 18) as an elite police unit raided an apartment while hunting theRead more

Punctual Faces

A co-worker and I exchanged texts recently: K: Hi Mary, I’m staying home today…I have laryngitis. Me: Feel better and quit yelling at your husband! K: Yeah, now I have to use poster board and markers to yell at him! Me: Use capital letters and lots of exclamation marks!!! Oddly enough, I didn’t reply with a face B-) That’s unusual 😮 But I did punctuate!!! I’m a serial face maker and punctuat*r I can’t help myself… Know what I mean?Read more

Natasha’s Challenge

Natasha and I have a new Saturday morning routine. We are mall walkers. Food court at 8:30 a.m. is where we meet. Natasha sets her Gym Boss, I start the pedometer on the cell phone and off we go for three laps around the inside caverns of the mall. As we solve the world’s problems and a few of our own on this walk, the colors of clothes, shoes and underwear pass us by and the undelightful smell of AbercrombieRead more

Perspective

Think about something that drives you crazy. Now, think about something that makes you happy. Does it change your perspective on the former? Crazy:  Slow drivers Happy: Fast drivers Crazy: Slow checkout lane Happy: Fast checkout lane Crazy: Slow coffee pot Happy: Fast coffee pot You get the point, right? Slow makes me crazy. I appreciate fast. Let’s get it done. I want it now. I have places to go, people to see, things to do. Let’s hurry it up.Read more
