National Cat (ur) Day!

Hey, pssst, Gibbs! Do you know what day it is today? Ummm…Queenie, it’s 1:00 a.m. and I’m trying to sleep. Why are you asking me stupid questions? It’s not a stupid question and don’t give me that crap about trying to sleep. You wake the human when she’s trying to sleep and that doesn’t seem to matter. That’s different. Well, okay, you can tell yourself that and believe, but I’d like you to answer my question. Do you know theRead more

Thursday Doors: A Tale of Two Pubs

Today’s Thursday Doors post is brought to you by Norm 2.0, two pubs and adult refreshment. There are two establishments in Appleton that I would take visitors to if A) they wanted to be somewhere unique and drink a dirty snowball and/or B) they were connoisseurs of beer. Today, I am sharing their doors, a little history, and a few photos from inside. Cleo’s Brown Beam Do you love the holidays? All holidays? Then you would love Cleo’s Brown Beam.Read more

It is Near

The smells, the color, the coolness of fall is near. I don’t feel it today because it is well into the 80’s and humid. It’s been this way since Monday and not expected to let up until Sunday or Monday. Summer is keeping a tight grip, refusing to let go. I welcome it, although it’s meant that the windows are closed and the A/C runs 24/7. But that doesn’t keep mother nature’s fall from turning Queen Ann’s Lace into dried-upRead more

Cherished: Memories in a Plastic Box

I had plenty of cherished objects to choose from for the subject of this post: A china doll that belonged to my grandmother; a pouting stool painted by my father; an orange bicycle in the garage; jewelry from a friend; a chest of drawers that belonged to a great aunt. What I eventually chose was this: My cherished object is not one thing, it’s a collection. A collection of photos. In plastic, rectangular boxes. Memories of childhood, parents, trips, cousins, neighbors, weddings, friends,Read more

Depth Re-do Times 3

Photo Challenge: Whether visually or emotionally, this week let’s dig (or dive) deep. Photo Re-do #1: The depth of a tunnel from summer’s past. Photo Re-do #2: The depth of cat’s being from Christmas 2014. Photo Re-do #3: The depth of a purple haze and hair spray from a scary Halloween.Read more

Batbird Lives!

Yes, I was Batbird for Halloween. The illegitimate daughter of Batman and an exotic, purple Amazonian bird. Natasha and Red were part of the bird family, although their genetic heritage is unknown. Perhaps Elvira and a cardinal had something to do with their physiques and the red feathers growing from their foreheads. The Halloween party was a blast, as usual. A local establishment, Waverly Beach, puts on this soiree every year, the Friday before Halloween. This year, that Friday fellRead more

One More Day

It’s been a busy week. It’s been a long Thursday. But soon, my fellow ghouls, the fun will begin. One more day… and the mask goes on, the costume goes on, and special, sparkly, feathery shoes provide adornment to the feet.   Scary Halloween photos to follow, perhaps one of the scary snow that is forecast, or the wind blowing the skirt up around my ears. Wouldn’t THAT be frightening!?Read more

Have Knife, will Carve

This past Friday was pumpkin carving day. The neighbors invited us over for supper, wine, and “a go” at the big, round, orange fruit. It was a contest of who can carve better than a 5th grader. With little or no recent experience at this venture, I would say we fared pretty well. Wouldn’t you? The mad minion bids you hello! A knife and an imagination brings a frightful sight. The owl’s eyes glow in the night, ready to kill.Read more

Fluffy Feathers

Natasha, Red and I chose our costumes Sunday afternoon. We are thoroughly excited to play dress-up and prance and dance for All Hallows’ Eve. What will I be? What about the other two babes? Will we harmonize? Here are a few clues… Yes, we will be incognito. I may wear very opaque black stockings under a somewhat short dress. Natasha and Red won’t need very opaque black stockings. (They will sport their cleavage.) There may be additional feathers. Fluffy, colorfulRead more

Pretty Strange in Pink

I attended a Halloween Party on Friday. It’s an annual event in the area. All proceeds go to Children’s Hospital. It brings out the strangest people. The event also brings out the good people. And good witches. There were those who left Spot at home… …and those who took part in a bubble bath. And then there was the Fed-Ex Material Girl. I offered to wrap packages and ship overnight. No one took me up on my offer. The pinkRead more
