For this month’s We Are the World Blogfest, I’m going to share the Fox Cities trail system in the Appleton, Wisconsin area. These are some of the biking/walking trails that I utilize throughout the year, but most often in spring, summer and autumn. I may have gushed about our trails before, but the community that also includes Neenah, Menasha, Fox Crossing, Kimberly, Kaukauna, Combined Locks and other surrounding townships, provide many miles of natural landscape, rivers, lakes and farmland. #CBWC: Walking, Hiking
This week’s entry for Cee’s Black and White Photo Challenge (CBWC) includes photos of places to walk or hike. The majority of photos were taken while I was on the bike (naturally), but the trails and reserves in the Fox Cities host walkers, hikers, and bicyclists. We have a plethora of nature’s beauty to choose from. Join the fun of black and white photography by clicking on the link at the beginning of the post. Details and weekly themes canRead more

Ride Number Three
On Sunday, I managed to get in bike ride number three. This is quite the feat considering how miserable the spring has been. Although the day was somewhat cool for June 2nd, in the mid 60’s, I put on the bike gear, filled up the water bottle, and headed out on the CB trail. Thank God it was open. Prior to Memorial Day weekend, I was driving to work one morning and passed a big electronic sign that said, “CBRead more
Spring Buds
A tree may be lovelier than a poem, but it is nothing without its spring buds. The buds that bring life to the earth after a long winter. The buds that shout, “Hello! It’s time!” Time for beguiling beauty. Time for the richness of color. Time for Mother Earth to bless us with renewal. This past week, as I spent time walking on two different trails, I took note of the buds. Buds on the trees, buds on the bushes, budsRead more
The Trail’s Horizon
The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun. ~Christopher McCandless~ For this week’s Daily Post photo challenge, Krista encourages us to think ahead to new horizons and New Year’s resolutions. I don’t usually make resolutions on January 1st, because they tend to fall away by February or March and then I’m simply bummed andRead more
The Sparse of a Farm
Daily Post Photo Challenge: This week, get inspired by the many connotations of the word “spare.” Earlier in May, when trees were still in “spring green” mode, I went for a walk on the Friendship Trail during lunch. This day, I drove to the gas station that’s a mile away, parked, and walked a different section of the trail in order to be surrounded by different scenery. Along the way, I found a patch of sparse, courtesy of a localRead more
Seasons: The Music of Impending Spring
Weekly Photo Challenge: Share an image evocative of the weather… Spring is singing a new song today, called “I’m coming soon!” Through early afternoon, the skies were blue and the stiff wind was warm. Since then, the clouds have taken over, rain is falling and winds are predicted to gust up to 45 m.p.h. Temperatures today and Saturday will be in the 40’s, which is warm for this neck of the woods in February. I was considered overdressed today with theRead more
