Winter Walk in the Flats

This past weekend was gorgeous, weather wise, for February in Wisconsin. Highs in the upper 30’s, close to 40F (4.4C). Blue skies. Glorious sun. Saturday was a perfect day for a winter walk in the Flats of Appleton, along the Fox River. People and their dogs and kids and one guy on his bicycle, relieving a bit of cabin fever. Thursday Doors: A Walk Along the River

In June I went for a walk. I know, surprising. The walk took me to the part of Appleton known as “The Flats.”  The Flats is a well-known area that is home to industry, apartment buildings, eateries and two walking trails along the banks of the Fox River. I’ve walked the Newberry trail many times, but this summer I discovered the start of the Fox Trot trail is right across the road and wraps around a portion of the river.Read more
