Just Land the Plane!

I have suffered with motion sickness all of my life. As a child and teenager, I discovered two things: 1) The Tilt-A-Whirl and most spinning amusement rides do not co-habitate well with a motion-challenged stomach, and 2) reading a book in the backseat of a car while on a family vacation does not end well for anyone. As an adult, there have been additional lessons. Lake Michigan and motor trolling for salmon in choppy waters is a big NO. ARead more

Ride Number Three

On Sunday, I managed to get in bike ride number three. This is quite the feat considering how miserable the spring has been. Although the day was somewhat cool for June 2nd, in the mid 60’s, I put on the bike gear, filled up the water bottle, and headed out on the CB trail. Thank God it was open. Prior to Memorial Day weekend, I was driving to work one morning and passed a big electronic sign that said, “CBRead more

Idiot Fishing

“There is a fine line between fishing and just standing on the shore like an idiot.”   ~Steven Wright~ This past Saturday, Natasha, Red and I were idiot fishing. Sort of. Sometimes we were just standing on the shore, other times the chair held us down. Sometimes we engaged in fishing, other times we (I) didn’t understand the concept of catch and release. (Not to worry, the slippery little devil eventually found his way back to water and safety.) AboutRead more

Seasons: The Music of Impending Spring

Weekly Photo Challenge: Share an image evocative of the weather… Spring is singing a new song today, called “I’m coming soon!” Through early afternoon, the skies were blue and the stiff wind was warm. Since then, the clouds have taken over, rain is falling and winds are predicted to gust up to 45 m.p.h. Temperatures today and Saturday will be in the 40’s, which is warm for this neck of the woods in February. I was considered overdressed today with theRead more

I am me

“Sea. Do you remember the first time you went in the water? Do you feel more peaceful around water? What’s the most interesting thing about the sea for you? Share a photo which means SEA to you!” I am not the sea I am me A wide spot in the river A lake I came to be No salt dwells below An ocean is not near I sit calmly, patiently… Above my smooth head of glass I hear Those who comeRead more

Mosquitos, Face Plants and Fish Hooks

Camping and fishing have their pitfalls. Serious pitfalls. The snares started when four women departed their vehicles on a Saturday evening to check out and choose a spot to park the camper and a couple of tents. Within an instant, a swarm of mosquitos descended, determined to suck the blood of every human in their path. The little flying demons did not care that the women were on an adventure of relaxation and respite – they were on a missionRead more

Fishing Fuel

Natasha and I have a new rule. Never ever fish without Oreos. The reasons are many. I’ll give you the short list. Oreos are good. No, Oreos are great. Oreos are the best alternative to breakfast, lunch or dinner in the boat or at the boat landing. Oreos are chocolate. (Good substitution for melty KitKat bars) Oreos have a creme filling. This is not relative to fishing, but still important. Oreos help us catch fish. No, they really do helpRead more
