#SoCS is Out of the Box

After three weeks of non-blogging due to holiday madness, I’m back to explore Linda G. Hill’s Stream of Consciousness prompt: The first thing that comes to mind when I think of “out of the box.” I’m looking like Hoshi at the moment. A little bit clueless, a little bit waiting for someone to present my next meal. Hoshi is wondering why Linda G. Hill didn’t make this prompt about “in the box,” because she and Gibbs would have a lotRead more

What Day is it?

Today is Labor Day in the United States, so I’ll start off by saying “thank you” to those who are enjoying a day off from their jobs. As of September 1st, I haven’t had to acknowledge this holiday for two years, unless an invitation to a picnic is involved. It’s just another day off to anyone who is retired. Every so often, I wake up in a need-for-caffeine fog and wonder, “What day is it?” Because one can lose senseRead more

#SoCS – Filling Frames

“The key to happiness is not to get more, but to enjoy what we have and to fill the empty frame of our lives instead of enlarging it.” ~Albert Szent Gyorgyi~ I like this – a reminder that I have plenty to work with inside my own frame and don’t need to turn an 8×10″ into 20×24. Friday reminded me that I have special people who make up part of my life’s photograph…spending the morning with a friend who IRead more

SoCS: How Ya Doin’?

How many times have you asked that question of family and friends? A hundred? A thousand? Too many times to count? When we don’t stay in touch with our people on a regular basis, it’s a fairly common first question to ask. Right? So, how are you doing my fellow blogging peeps? I’ve been a tad busy the last couple of weeks, which means I haven’t published a post or been reading many of your posts. I apologize. I’m notRead more

A Missing Thursday Door

Yes, I know…Thursdays with Dan Antion at No Facilities is supposed to be about doors. Well, I thought I’d throw a stick into the wheel of this event and only share a door frame. Considering I rarely get involved with Thursday doors, I’m throwing another stick into the wheel with this once-in-a-blue-moon post that has nothing to do with holidays. I hope Dan isn’t wondering, “Who is this woman, really, and where is her door?” Let me explain… The doorlessRead more

#WATWB: Tradition

This is going to be a short post for the November’s We are the World Blogfest (WATWB). It is the Thanksgiving weekend here in the U.S. and between cooking, feeding my face on Thanksgiving Day, and engaging in my own holiday tradition, I’m going to be a tad busy for a few days. Instead of focusing on a particular person, I thought we could focus on holiday or family traditions. Or create new ones from the possibilities in the followingRead more

Melange-O-Rama

Did you know that the meaning of melange is “hodgepodge” or “assortment?” I named my blog Mary J. Melange because I planned on writing a variety of content rather than singularly about cats or bicycles or poetry. It is today that I’m sharing a chaotic hodgepodge of stuff would have been called mish-mash were it not for Dan’s recent post at No Facilities. Great minds think alike, but I may have to outdo his assortment. Just because I can. IRead more

SoCS: What’s New Pussycat?

For this week’s Stream of Consciousness Saturday, blogger Linda Hill gave us our marching orders: “Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “song.” First, find a picture–the closest one to you. Your prompt is the title and/or the lyrics of the first song that comes to mind when you look at the picture. Have fun!” I’m still working at home, in my bedroom, with a fairly small work space. However, I manage to find space for my coffeeRead more
