Dude on a Bike & #WATWB

On the bike, waiting for the traffic light to change… Me: Nice day for a bike ride. Dude on a Bike: Every day is a nice day for a bike ride. Me: Yes, I suppose…unless it’s snowing. Dude on a Bike: Only if it’s snowing hard. Me: I draw the line at 50 degrees. I’m a bit of a fair-weather biker. Dude on a Bike: I ride all year ’round, unless it’s snowing hard. Me: Do you have a fatRead more

#WATWB: Fox Valley Memory Project

Fox Valley Memory Project As many of my readers know, my 97-year old mom has dementia and lives in assisted living. We have had quite the journey together with the various stages of dementia – watching the decline, keeping mom from being anxious and trying to have peaceful conversations. It is no wonder, then, that my heart lit up like a Christmas tree when I found out about the Fox Valley Memory Project in Appleton and surrounding communities. “The FoxRead more

What you Want…

You know you want summer warmth, not two feet of snow. You know you want chocolate, rather than cheese from a goat. You know you want fashion-forward style, but not this by a mile. Or this. You know you want to be loved, not left alone. You know you want to laugh, rather than cry and groan. You know you want to have your place in the sun. Left alone is sounding more and more like fun. I think weRead more

Twofer Wednesday

I couldn’t decide on just one one-liner for today, so… I concur with Picard. No matter how rich or famous or beautiful or powerful one human can be, it should never discount the value of all other humans in the room, neighborhood, country, or world. Support your fellow human beings and aliens! So true. If only we talked to each other instead of at each other; if only we let go of our own insecurities, fears and misinformation; if onlyRead more

The Cherish of a Family Bible

One of the many cherished items given to me by my parents is dad’s family bible. This is a Catholic Bible, printed circa 1884, leather bound, measuring 14”x11”x4.” It’s a hefty Bible, weighing 13 pounds or 5.9 kg. Dad gave this Bible to me many years ago and for many years, it has been tucked away in the bottom section of a china cabinet. The Bible is not in the worst of conditions, nor is it in the best.
