Breathless

What do I ask that is not envisioned The heart of my own spirit fails to speak Words that leave the tongue in indecision A desire within the realm of the weak Why do I question what can be conceived By the response of the one called ruler Is boldness permitted in time of need Or possibility found peculiar A spirit groans at the lack of command Intercedes with courage in muted gaze An understanding of the mighty hand ThatRead more

Love and Affection

“Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another.” Romans 12:10 Whether you are religious or not, I think we can all use repetitive words of love and affection in these crazy, unsure times. The Bible scripture comes from 3-Minute Devotions for a Cat Lover’s Heart. (If you know me, you would not be surprised at all that I have a cat-themed devotional. If you don’t know me, welcome to the land ofRead more

Separating Faith and Government

In early November, 2012, prior to the Presidential election,  I left a church I had been attending. Inside the weekly bulletin was a sheet of paper, with both political candidates named, comparing where they stood on certain issues. As I was reading through Chapter 4 for this week’s gathering, the words aboveRead more

The Right for All to Live

I was sitting on the patio Saturday morning, reading the book of James and tears welled in my eyes. Then I swore a little…or maybe a lot. Sorry God. I’m a tad bit angry these days. It’s about life and the right to live life. It seems that humans forget it’s not just about your unborn babies. It’s about all of your children. We’re supposed to love and protect everyone. Correct? Love our neighbors as ourselves. Right? Follow in theRead more

The Cherish of a Family Bible

One of the many cherished items given to me by my parents is dad’s family bible. This is a Catholic Bible, printed circa 1884, leather bound, measuring 14”x11”x4.” It’s a hefty Bible, weighing 13 pounds or 5.9 kg. Dad gave this Bible to me many years ago and for many years, it has been tucked away in the bottom section of a china cabinet. The Bible is not in the worst of conditions, nor is it in the best. IRead more
