#SoCS: Cleaning the Sty

Recently, Gibbs had few “sneezy” days and he lost his lunch a couple of times. Perhaps that’s normal, once-in-awhile cat behavior or perhaps it’s a sign of illness. In this case, my current supposition is that Gibbs was surrounded by too much dust and cat hair. It was evident when I started deep cleaning the bedroom and bathroom sty last weekend. Most often, I try to clean these spaces every two weeks, but this time it was three. I hadRead more

Just Land the Plane!

I have suffered with motion sickness all of my life. As a child and teenager, I discovered two things: 1) The Tilt-A-Whirl and most spinning amusement rides do not co-habitate well with a motion-challenged stomach, and 2) reading a book in the backseat of a car while on a family vacation does not end well for anyone. As an adult, there have been additional lessons. Lake Michigan and motor trolling for salmon in choppy waters is a big NO. ARead more

Teeny Tiny Tank

“The length of a film should be directly related to the endurance of the human bladder.” ~Alfred Hitchcock~ I agree. Confession: I have a teeny tiny holding tank. I swear, the size of a walnut. It has been an issue for much of my adult life. Especially when a movie exceeds the two hour mark. Made it through Downton Abbey recently. Made it through Black Panther and Bohemian Rhapsody last year. Not sure how I made it through all threeRead more

Finding the Bathroom

I am this. The sullen smog from Jimi’s rock and roll guitar. The faithful mist of a a royal prince. The reddened azure of water’s vapor. I am not a sissy pastel, nor the good-for-nothing child of black and white. My soul is the first breath of spring’s vibrant columbine. My heart is filled with the liquid of amethyst jewels. I embrace the grandiose swirls in the sky of a rising day. Never will I be boring khaki pants, norRead more

Three Men and a Cell Phone

At 6:30 am on Sunday morning, the alarm on my cell phone went off. I reached over to where the phone sits on a night stand, picked it up and tapped the “snooze” button. The alarm continued to ring. Then I tried to swipe it silent. Nothing. I tapped the snooze again. Same results. I swear the alarm was getting louder. Panic started to set in. My roommate sleeps one wall over and I didn’t want the alarm to wakeRead more

Thursday Doors: Rest Stop

How do I top that, a trifecta for Thursday doors? How do I float your boat, and leave you wanting more?   Will the door people scowl, at this petty attempt? To engage in the challenge, with a twisted bent.   For there were two doors, that beckoned me close. Walk this way, they called, We’re not too morose!   We service the people in this little park. The ones who walk, run, bike and fish after dark.   WeRead more

Birthday Cake

“Hello? Is that you? This is me!” When dad was alive and he would call, more often than not, that would be his opening line. On other occasions, he would simply say, “This is your dear old father.” I found a photo of him cutting a birthday cake in 1961. I cannot figure out if the photo was taken on March 9th (his birthday) and developed in July or if this was a late celebration. At any rate, dad turnedRead more

Routine

“The constant challenge to decipher feline behavior is perhaps one of the most fascinating qualities of owning a cat.” ~Carole Wilbourn~ And so it was this morning The same as every morning The young lad is waiting in the bathroom, in the tub Waiting for the water to go blub, blub Human tells him “out!” First a meow, then a pout He hangs nearby, scolding While human’s shower is unfolding Come out, human, you are getting wet! (That must be awful,Read more
