All I Need

“All truly great thoughts are conceived while walking.” ~Friedrich Nietzsche~ “If you seek creative ideas go walking.” ~Raymond I. OD Myers~ Over a lunch time walk, I had neither a great thought nor a creative one, other than I came up with this post. I did enjoy the sun on my face, the crisp almost-spring air, and an opportunity to get away from work for 30 minutes. Sometimes that’s all I need. This post has been brought to you byRead more

SoCS: Breathing Seasons

Breathe in Breathe out Lungs cauterized by winter’s frozen retort Stark trees bare their darkened soul Breathe in Breathe out Lungs refreshed by spring’s unprocessed reply White birch bare their newborn green Breathe in Breathe out Lungs parched by summer’s brazen song Limbs bare their sultry, layered bark Breathe in Breathe out Lungs clear and crisp by autumn’s chameleon chatter Leaves bare their red and golden hues Breathe in Breathe out Lungs expand and collapse by pages on the calendarRead more

No Longer a Sign…

SOCs: Soul vs. Sole

A warming soul Thaws into a puddle For a day Amid a sun’s swaddling Amid a cloud’s pouring Enveloped in glorious fifty And, then Ridges of a sole Hurry across frozen For a day Amid the pewter clouds Amid a snickering snowfall Enveloped in unwanted thirty Stream of Consciousness Saturday is the brainchild of author Linda G. Hill. Every Friday, Linda provides her followers with an inspiring blogger’s prompt. It can be a word or words and sometimes bonus pointsRead more

Somewhat Busy

I can’t necessarily say that I live an exciting life. I can say I live a somewhat busy life. Unlike this guy… “Sleep my little baby-oh Sleep until you waken When you wake you’ll see the world If I’m not mistaken…”  ~Neil Gaiman~ I wanted so badly to sleep Thursday morning, to stay in bed until the urge for coffee overwhelmed the need to lay prone. It may be my own fault – I’ve started reading at night [summer project]Read more

Sunday Rejuvenation

Sunday is as Sunday does A beautiful gift from God above Placid waters and winter’s wheaty grass Wondering if the attempt of warmth will last Sunday is at it rests upon wooden bench While rejuvenation seeks to be quenched Take in the view, smell coming of spring Listen to geese upon their honking wing Sunday is as one day in time It’s cool, calm energy feels sublime A walk along it’s graceful edge Removes the cobwebs from life’s head SundayRead more

Spring Buds

A tree may be lovelier than a poem, but it is nothing without its spring buds. The buds that bring life to the earth after a long winter. The buds that shout, “Hello! It’s time!” Time for beguiling beauty. Time for the richness of color. Time for Mother Earth to bless us with renewal. This past week, as I spent time walking on two different trails, I took note of the buds. Buds on the trees, buds on the bushes, budsRead more

February Weird

On February 22, 2017, when the normal average temperature in Northeast Wisconsin is about 29 degrees Farenheit (-1.67 C), the thermometer was reading about 62. Weird. During lunch time, I went for a walk on the trail and then sat on this bench for about 10 minutes, soaking up the sun and warmth, before heading back to the office. This was glorious, but also the last day of what was a weirdly wonderful stretch of spring-like weather. Thursday was cooler,Read more

Shadowing of Spring?

Over at No Facilities this morning, Dan gave his readers the duality of a Florida sunset from a business trip and this past week’s snowpocalypse in the Northeast. The only good thing about the snow photos was pretty girl Maddie, the queen of her backyard mountain. Given a choice, I imagine Dan would prefer to be back in Florida where there are no snowblowers to be found and the weather is a tad bit warmer. A reply to my comments,Read more

Breathe Deep

The soil is the great connector of lives, the source and destination of all. It is the healer and restorer and resurrector, by which disease passes into health, age into youth, death into life. ~Wendell Berry~ This time of year, spring in Wisconsin, the smell of mud and dirt begin to permeate the senses.  We see the dark combination of minerals and decaying organic matter poking through the melting snow, finally freed from months under a blanket of frozen white. TheRead more

Seasons: The Music of Impending Spring

Weekly Photo Challenge: Share an image evocative of the weather… Spring is singing a new song today, called “I’m coming soon!” Through early afternoon, the skies were blue and the stiff wind was warm. Since then, the clouds have taken over, rain is falling and winds are predicted to gust up to 45 m.p.h. Temperatures today and Saturday will be in the 40’s, which is warm for this neck of the woods in February. I was considered overdressed today with theRead more
