When I Stop

When I stop

in the middle

of God

I am present

in the silence

of the wind

whispering an angel’s breath

swirling in and out of crimson

and golden maple

I hear His creatures

Whistling, chirping, rustling

across branches on earth’s floor

I feel His blessing

Peace, tranquility

I understand the grandeur

of His beautiful, magnificent creation

When I stop

here in the middle

two eyes well with gratitude

for breath, life and two legs

I give thanks

stay silent a bit more

and then

ride away

I’m so glad that you stop. I know some who ride non-stop. They miss so much in the pursuit of “better metrics.” Thanks for sharing your experience in such a lovely manner.

    Have a great week!

I don’t ride so I can claim miles or endurance, Dan. I ride so that I can enjoy my surroundings and nature and sometimes the gift of a friend. And once in awhile, I ride to wear off the cupcake I just ate. πŸ˜‰

Dan’s comment reminded me of my coach when I was racing. She would occasionally remind me to look around – you don’t want to focus so much on the ride that you miss the beauty surrounding you πŸ™‚

“I am present in the silence” reminds me that there is so much to hear in the silence. It’s really quite amazing. I am off for a hike this morning on a trail I’ve never been on before. I shall listen for the silence.

Happy Monday, Mary! Hope you have a great day.

Enjoy your hike, Joanne! Yes, please listen to the silence of the woods – it’s awesome. And don’t forget to breathe in the smells of fall. Although a short season, this is my favorite time of year to ride or walk to savor these last moments before winter shows up.

Mine too! … and you are so right about the smell of the forest. The air is different as soon as you step into the trees. I know the Japanese refer to it as forest bathing, but I tend to think of it more as forest drinking πŸ™‚

Lovely. I enjoy the stillness you can find in nature if you look for it. The photos to go with this make me smile.

Ally, the spot on the trail where I stopped is one of my favorites. I am surrounded by a tunnel of trees and nature, which gives me a great deal of happiness.

  4. A blissful pause in your journey Mary, so happy you are surrounded by nature’s beauty and now have the time to enjoy it more πŸ’š
