- “Where words leave off, music begins.”
“Ah, music,” he said, wiping his eyes. “A magic beyond all we do here!”
“Music, once admitted to the soul, becomes a sort of spirit, and never dies.”
“Music has always been a matter of energy to me, a question of fuel. Sentimental people call it inspiration, but what they really mean is fuel. I have always needed fuel. I am a serious consumer. On some nights I still believe that a car with the gas needle on empty can run about fifty more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio.”
This past Saturday, a friend and I spent the entire day in downtown Appleton, at Mile of Music, an annual four-day music festival in its seventh year…or Mile 7. The festival is held along a one mile stretch of the downtown, with about 200 up-and-coming artists putting on around 900 shows over the four days, at various venues. One of the venues is a new amphitheater in a recently remodeled Jones Park that can accommodate a large crowd. Friend and I decided this year that one day is not enough, so we’re planning for Friday and Saturday next year. We both love music and are willing to explore many genres during the festival. Watching and listening to a live band or performer is far different than listening to a recording – it’s why I don’t mind country music, a jazz singer or even rap at this event. The artists are talented and the music is cool.
That being said, one of our favorites on Saturday was Dan Rodriguez, singer and musician from Minneapolis, Minnesota. He has a very easy listening voice and writes wonderful songs. Take a listen and enjoy the power of music.
