“To me, country music tells a story about, and deals with, the way people live their lives and what they do.”
~Randy Travis~
I’m not a huge fan of country music. I cherry-pick at it, depending on the lyrics and music. Sometimes I do country music simply because Keith Urban is on the TV with a guitar.
That being said, blogging friend Dan over at No Facilities loves country music and decided it applies to cats as well as people. This came after my Saturday SoCS post and a photo of cat Gibbs, who was a bit woeful after human mom left him for a few days.
Anyhow, Dan helped Gibbs write a forlorn “My Momma Left Me” country song and proceeded to comment under the wrong post. (Sorry, Dan, I hope this isn’t embarrassing to you because it’s damn funny to me.) (And I really love the song.) Additional comments ensued, which I think everyone should have a chance to read.
From Gibbs
My momma left me
No woman in sight
My momma left me
No salmon tonight
When she left for work this morning
She was pullin’ a suitcase behind
She gave me an extra, guilty scritch
But no extra kibble to find
My momma left me
No woman in sight
My momma left me
No salmon tonight
I woke myself up around supper time
And I parked my fur down by the door
It never opened. She’s gone for good
I’m starving here on this floor
I tried to get Ziva to wait with me
To try to send a vibe
Sittin’ and waitin’ ain’t her cup of tea
I swear she ain’t part of my tribe
My momma left me
No woman in sight
My momma left me
No salmon tonight
It hurts when your momma leaves you
It hurts me right down to my core
I still don’t think it’s a thing she could do
So I’m sittin’ here next to this door.

LOLOLOL!!! That’s totally awesome, Dan! I’m going to get in touch with Keith Urban’s agent and see if he’ll record. All rights and 5,000 bonus points to you, of course.
-
Ha ha! Blame it on the inspirational photo. He looks so sad.
-
-
By the way, you commented on a totally different post. Did you plan that? An oops?
-
Yes, an oops big-time. I was wondering why “precious” was showing up – doofus 😦
-
In my case, I blame the oops moments on “fat fingers.”
-
I put it where it belonged (I wanted to change one word anyway). Sorry to make a production out of this.
-
It’s just like work and the happiness engineers…production.
-
Thanks for being my tech-support
-
You’re welcome. I’m the Happy, Helpful Engineer. 😏
-
And the “Cat Feedin’ Momma” – That’s Gibbs’s next release.
-
Oooh…an album and neighborhood tour.
Gibbs is busy trying to find a tour manager and a copyright attorney who will work for kibble. Keith Urban’s Agent has not returned my calls.
Perhaps Dan can figure out a way to make this come together for the sake of country music fans and his retirement royalties.
In the meantime, feel free to offer your managerial advice and kudos to Dan and Gibbs for their awesome songwriting abilities. These two could go far…

Okay – this is too funny. Who knew Dan had these skills in his wheelhouse. 🙂 I like modern country music, and might suggest if you don’t hear back from Keith Urban try Luke Bryan or Kenny Chesney. 🙂
Once in a while, I urge Dan to write poetic posts and usually he declines. However, in this instance, Dan felt sorry for Gibbs and helped him write his country song. I think it’s fabulous!
Luke or Kenny, huh? Perhaps Luke. From what I’ve seen of him on American Idol (bits and pieces), he might be my second choice. Do you happen to have his number?
Wow! Dan is a songwriter too!?!?!? Great song. I could use it for my dog Benji when I go away. He is always so forlorn.
I believe Dan found a niche for many pet owners who leave their babies for days on end without lovin’ or brushin’ or feedin’. Which might be great lyrics for another song.
HA! Thanks for trying to help Gibbs’ and my budding career – I think we have a good shot, if he can stay awake, and if I can find a tour bus with a litter box. If I was embarrassed every time I said the right thing in the wrong place, it would be my perpetual state. Maybe I can coax MuMu into singing background vocals. She’s good at that, if we can do the recording sessions around 3:00 am.
MuMu is in as long as Gibbs agrees to her terms. Perhaps she would consider 4:00 am, when the Gibbs party starts around here?
No problem with the litter box. I’ll check the internet later for a rhinestone encrusted box, which would fit my buddy’s soon-to-be famous stature.
Thanks again for helping Gibbs with his song. I can’t wait to see what the both of you come up with next. It’s going to be twangy awesome.
“Cat Feedin’ Momma” is going on the flip side. We were working on it when he fell asleep.
Jeepers. I’ll have to send him out with more kibble next time. Or is that what put him to sleep?
It’s hard to tell what puts cats to sleep.
LOL – I love it, you two, well, can’t forget to include Gibbs and Ziva and Natalie, so all of you are AWESOME!
Thanks Shelley! I’m sure Ziva will be included somehow in all of this. She certainly has a voice of her own. 😼
You’re welcome. Yes, the shy ones sure do, they can be surprisingly convincing!
Clever and fun! Gibbs is one lucky little kitty cat to have a song written about his woes. A song about Ziva next? Perhaps about her jealousy of not being the first cat to have a song written about her?
Perhaps, but more likely a song about how she doesn’t get enough sleep. Poor thing.
This is a riot! I think Dan has found his calling–too funny! You know that picture of Gibbs was just itching for a song.….
Next week, we will have a redux of momma leaving. It remains to be seen if Gibbs will watch the door again, but at least he has a crying song to keep him company.
This is waaay too funny! I will give a copy to my cats and they can sing it when they are left alone for a day or more. Nevermind the overflowing cat food bowl and water — that part doesn’t matter. Thanks to Dan and you for sharing!
You’re welcome Claudia. I swear Gibbs’ real momma left him at a tender young age. He is so clingy and needy. And kneady. His next song might be about making biscuits on his momma’s chest.
I loved this. I wish I could hear it being sung, to see if it matched the tune I heard in my head!
I need Keith or someone to write the music. It shouldn’t be too difficult, right?
Sure, piece of cake!
I am neither a cat, nor a country music lover, but even I want to hear this song performed.
In the key of meow, if you please.
The key of meow it is, although it might be a little scratchy or high-pitched whiney in spots.
The key of meow has seven sharps, I believe.
That’s brilliant! Well done, Dan and Gibbs. Let me know when the single comes out on the radio and I’ll try and find the Country music station.
Hey, when the single is released, you’ll be able to say 1) I found the country music station and 2) I knew Dan and Gibbs when…
But don’t hold your breath.
I sing as badly as any cat, so I wouldn’t be looking for us on the country hit parade any time soon.
How about bad karaoke?
Lol! Classic cat country. Or C cubed. Such a feel good post. I think I see a post retirement activity for Dan 😂
C-cubed…ha! I like that! 🙂
OMG! This was brilliant! Is there anything Dan can’t do?! … technology, carpenter extradinaire, photographer, writer, … now songster!!! This man has the Royal Jelly 🙂
I know. I’m a tad bit jealous of Dan, although you can never trust me with a hammer and nails…
Hammer and nails are pretty safe … it’s the power tools that become another story 😉
It’s a most excellent song!
I would totally WATCH Keith Urban sing it. Mmhm, I said watch.
I don’t much care for country, either, and I really don’t care for Randy Effin Travis, he might be the worstest one ever. Twang twang twang! Buck up, Buddy! Sorry.
Ooookay, Great lyrics for Dan! Great theme song for Gibbs!
The twang will get you every time. Did you know I usd to watch American Idol when Keith was a judge, waiting for him to say “baby” in his Aussie accent. Best part of the show. So, yeah, I mostly watch him and his T-shirts.
I understand. I have watched worse things for shallower reasons.
Ha! Terrific post for a Caturday, MaryJ. I didn’t realize Dan had such feline song writing talent. 🐱 I imagine that one to the tune of “Heartbreak Hotel.” So if Mr. Urban won’t return your calls, perhaps an Elvis impersonator. Happy weekend hugs!
Dan seems to be very multitalented these days.
That’s an excellent suggestion, Teagan…Heartbreak Hotel…because certainly Mr. Gibbs would deem it appropriate.
