What You Want

“You can’t always get what you want
But if you try sometimes you might find
You get what you need”

~The Rolling Stones~

We don’t always get what we want on vacation; however, vacation is something we all need.

Wouldn’t you agree?

(Crazy workaholics need not answer)

For example, one may not get sweaty hot weather…

But blue skies and a view is what is needed most.

One may not see the perfect, cloudless sunset…

But who can argue with almost perfect AND a campfire on the beach?

One may not always get to go down the stairs…

But the views at both the top and bottom are what everyone needs.

One may not get to take the cats along on vacation because they hate the car…

But hanging out with a big, lovable dog for a few days may be what one needs.

One may not get excited over nature and bridges…

Seriously?

No, it’s what you need, honey. Honestly.

One may not get to ride the planned bike trail due to rain…

But the alternative is still engaging.

And there’s another bridge.

One may not get a piece of pie or chocolate cake on vacation…

But having a plate of fish tacos and beer, and a plate of mussels and beer is required.

Dessert not needed.

I assure you.

One may walk on a woodsy trail for a mile and not get the view they expected…

But the solitude and history of this place is what one needs.

(More on this subject at a later date.)

One may not get to ride on a roller coaster or shop at the mega outlet mall…

But why would anyone do that on vacation when you can do THIS?

It’s what you and I need.

Not a piece of pie or chocolate cake on vacation…?? And no cats…?? That’s too hard for me. I’ll stay home, I guess… ๐Ÿ˜‰

Truth be told, Herman, I brought dairy-free, gluten-free bakery treats for my hostess, so not all was lost. The black bean brownies were delicious!

It was a perfect week, Judy. However it would have been nice to be off 2 weeks so I could get a better grasp of this retirement thing. ๐Ÿ˜

It looks like your vacation checked all the right boxes! Sorry that you couldn’t ride trail you had hoped for … but it’ll still be there when you’re ready ๐Ÿ™‚
That’s a very happy looking Mary at the end!

Yes, this Mary is happy that she had some time to relax, walk the beach, see the beauty of nature and take a bike ride. I’d do it all over again if I could! The missed trail will be ridden…if not this year, then next. It’s on my list!

My favorite song of life…I learn to take what’s given and dance in the rain anyway! Sounds like a lovely time!

Ah, it looks like you have a FANTASTIC vacation! Congrats- hope being back to work isn’t too much of a shock to your rested and relaxed self you brought back with you from your trip!

I’ve made it through a good chunk of Monday, back at work, without wanting to run out the door. So that’s a good thing. ๐Ÿ˜€

  6. Looks like you made the most of whatever was on offer. Sometimes just going somewhere and doing something different is enough of a holiday. It’s what you make it really.

It was great to get away from work and the daily routine at home. I vacationed in this area a few times as a child, so it also brought back a few memories of walking the beaches and family car trips. Good times!

That looks like a beautiful vacation! I’m a cat-owner person, but a lovable dog is hard to top. ๐Ÿ™‚

Don’t tell my felines, Marian, but I made a new doggie friend. Max seemed to like the extra attention I gave him. He’s a real sweetheart!

Those are fabulous examples of ‘instead of’ happies! ๐Ÿ™‚
Fire — I want a fire! And I want it to be cold, so the fire feels good!
This was my favorite part: “No, itโ€™s what you need, honey. Honestly.” LOL Love that!
Welcome back and thanks for sharing!

You’re welcome honey! Another month or two and you can have a cold fire with weenies on a stick and a bottle of wine. You must do this. ๐Ÿ˜€

  9. Looks like you had a great time, Mary, but you also have a great perspective on life, and that made it all the better for you!
