Engage in Boldness

What does it mean to boldly go

when there is no star ship in sight?

How do I get to where no one has gone before

when I don’t know if I should go left or right?

When do I make choices to go past the stars

and live without fear of a wrong turn?

Can I live long and prosper this year

and from life find lessons to learn?

Does temporal time stand still

while I decide what to do next?

Or proceed at high warp speed

faster than a fourteen year old can text?

Tell me: How I can transport into the new year

and make it the best ever?

When do I tell myself, “Make it so”

rather than slithering into never?

I’m a woman, not a doctor,

but does that really matter?

It’s time to boldly go and go and go

and not listen to self-defeating alien chatter.

I must discover the saga of what’s ahead

and not be stunned by what I find

I shall give this year all I’ve got

and not leave any directives or red shirts behind

The best intentions shall (La)forge ahead

and beam me to a place of wonder

No holodeck or holograms do I need

Except maybe an imaginary place to ponder

What will this bold year of 2018 hold in store

as the days, weeks and months revolve around the sun?

Will I go where I have never been before

and leave resistance and those damn Borg on the run?

Will I logically follow the path set before me,

the future in my hands, like war to wage?

Yes, I shall lay in a course for a fascinating year

And leave you with one word: Engage!

This post has been brought to you by bold Star Trek poetry. It has also been brought to you by Linda G. Hill’s “One-Liner Wednesday.” All you need to play along every week is an awesome one-liner and follow a few rules. Birds on a wire are not required, but make sure you link back today’s post to HERE so the rest of us #1linerweds peeps can read it.

I love this! My favorite part was “I’m a woman, not a doctor” – I heard that in McCoy’s voice (which was weird). I can remember all the scenes where someone gave an order and I thought “I would not go there” and I do wonder if I’ll engage or retreat when presented with the chance. I hope I find the courage to engage.

I do have the medical doctor Star Trek blue shirt, so perhaps I do sound a bit like McCoy? We all find our boldness and courage when the situation calls for it. I have no doubt that you can engage when needed.

Rather cheerful, hopeful post. What WILL we do this year?
I’m not even a Trekkie, but “I’m a woman, not a doctor” made me LOL 🙂

I was trying to work in a “Dammit Jim!” sentence, but the woman-not-a-doctor thing worked better. Glad I could give you an LOL this morning, Joey. 🙂

    Engage! Make it so!!

…. until I discover that all the controls have frozen in the cold. This might take longer than I expected ….

The heat will be working just fine in May when we’re having an unseasonably warm spring 😉

I can’t complain though – my house is comfortably warm and for that I’m very grateful!

This thought-provoking poem sent me into a mood of reflection that enriched my afternoon, and for that I thank you. The line that reverberated most with me: “It’s time to boldly go and go and go and not listen to self-defeating alien chatter.”

You are so welcome, Auntie! I wrote that line because I often let my own negative chatter get the best of me rather than throwing those damn aliens out the air lock and into space. I’ve decided that a few of those aliens are going to die in 2018. 😉
