One-Liner Wednesday: Speed

“The only thing faster than the speed of thought is the speed of forgetfulness.”

“Good thing we have other people to help us remember.”

~Vera Nazarian~

And pens and post-it notes.

And Outlook calendars.

And Google calendars.

And appointment cards.

And the part of our brains that once-in-awhile remembers stuff.

This was not the one-liner I intended to use today. I had an outstanding idea for One-Liner Wednesday on Sunday morning while fixing the bed-head, faux mohawk that was my hair. It really was outstanding and the last thing I remember thinking was, “I’ll write that down after I finish with the hair spray and hand lotion.”

Yeah, not a bright idea…

This post has been brought to you by ummm…I don’t remember. It has also been brought to you by Linda G. Hill’s “One-Liner Wednesday.” All you need to play along every week is an awesome one-liner and follow a few rules. Birds on a wire are not required, but make sure you link back today’s post to HERE so the rest of us #1linerweds peeps can read it.

But, you’ll remember that about 3:00 this afternoon. The worst thing that I do is make a note that I’m sure will cause me to remember, and then I can’t figure out what the note means.

I hope you have a good day.

I usually remember stuff at 3:00 a.m., when it’s dark and I don’t have pen and paper handy. But then, I’d probably end up with a Dan note, wondering a few hours later what I wrote. I’ll let you know next Wednesday if the idea comes back to me. 🙂

I have pecked stuff into my phone at 3:00 am – incomprehensible in the light of day, but…

I’m in the group of better memory so far, but there are still some times tripping me up. Instead of every after school thingy ending at one time, they vary, 4:45, 5:00, 5:15, 5:30, 5:45. That’s annoying and hard to remember which where when.
As a writer though, I too have brill ideas at 3am, which I’m certain I’ll remember in the morning, but sometimes I have to write TO remember them. Some of them get lost in brain forever. Also annoying.

The school time thingy would mess me up too. I like same time, same channel. Ideas and writing urges sometimes come to me while at work or in the car and by the time I get home…both are gone. Is it age or too busy a schedule or both?

      • joey says:

I think it’s more schedule than age. We just (western humans all) have WAY too many things to remember!
My mother tells me regularly that she’s forgotten more than I know. Only so much room in there. We gotta make room for updates all the time.

If all those memories were in my brain I wonder why I forget anything. Or remember it after I forgot it. At some times of the day the speed of thought is so slow I figure I might as well forget it. And then I can’t.

As I was laying in bed last night, awake instead of asleep, I was wondering why I could remember the lyrics of several songs and everything I needed to do at work today when I really didn’t want to.

I have loads of bright ideas that melt like milk chocolate in your hand Mary, the minute my mind needs to be used for more practical things. I write everything down!

People think I’m really organized because I write everything down. HA HA HA! If I were REALLY organized and efficient, I wouldn’t NEED to write everything down. You know the expression, “I’d forget my head, if it wasn’t sewn on tight”? That’s me?
