In 1984, President Ronald Reagan signed Proclamation 5187, creating “National Correctional Officers’ Week.” Each year, the first full week in May is recognized as National Correctional Officers and Employees Week, commemorating the contributions of correctional employees who work in jails, prisons, and community corrections across the country.
I thanked my co-workers with a white-chocolate raspberry cake (no ice cream) this morning. If you know someone – a friend, family member, neighbor, acquaintance – who works in a correctional setting, please thank them for their service, especially this week. Working to change the lifestyle and thinking patterns of another human being is not always an easy task. It takes dedication, hard work and perseverance. Even though my duties are mostly administrative, I am very proud to be a member of an extraordinary team of people who work to motivate others to be the best citizens they can possibly be.
Happy Correctional Employees Week!
I didn’t know about this week but it seems appropriate. Enjoy the cake and please accept my thanks.
You’re welcome, Dan. Any excuse to have cake, right?

I’m not sure how cake isn’t interesting, but oh well…to each their own.
Sweet! Pun intended π
Pun taken.
I agree on both counts – (1) correctional officers have a difficult job and (2) cake π
Thank you for agreeing…now it’s time to eat cake!
I forwarded your post to one of my nieces who is a corrections officer … in Canada, but I think it still counts π
Oh I wish I’d been here last week! I have several patients who work in the corrections field.
That cake looks delicious … so pretty!
Thanks for your work, Mary.
You’re welcome Laurie. That is one of the best cakes I’ve ever had. Low calorie too! π
