So they left the subject and played croquet, which is a very good game for people who are annoyed with one another, giving many opportunities for venting rancor.
There was none of that on Saturday evening. No venting rancor. No annoyance other than with a missed shot or a taunting opponent. Rather, we were sipping on adult refreshment and whacking croquet balls in the dark. Red dusted off her croquet set, wrapped glow sticks around the hoops and used a couple of camper’s headlights so we could find our balls.
We whacked our balls up and down a small hill, down a narrow strip of uneven ground, around a fire pit (one tried to land in the pit), and past other obstacles like a hose, lawn chairs, etc. We whacked them by the light of the North Star and a flashing light that we deemed an alien spaceship.
I didn’t win, but it didn’t matter. This was too much fun…whacking croquet balls, with friends, in the dark.
You should try it.
